It's my sincere pleasure to present to you my students' book reviews for The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. We just finished this classic middle school book, and they were eager to share their opinions with the book-world!
In true "bookblondie fashion," I required them to write their reviews in the synopsis-opinion-rating format. They were also each required to include an explanation for their star rating that could include the author's use of literary elements, dialogue, or figurative language.
Without further adieu, here are some opinions of The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton as composed by 12 and 13 year olds:
Synopsis: Ponyboy Curtis and the rest of his gang are troubled by the Socs, a vicious gang of rich kids whose idea of a good time is beating up "greasers." Nobody really gets hurt until the night that someone takes things too far... (Ryan)
Reviews: S.E. Hinton's book is very inspirational and shows two perspectives of teens' lives. Even though there were some bad choices made in the novel, all the characters stuck together. It's very important that we don't judge others by their looks or financial appearances. This book is also based on a true story. It is horrific to even think that people were being judged this way. 3 Stars ⭐⭐⭐ (Jamie)
I really enjoyed reading this! It is my all time favorite book from middle school! It put me through an emotional rollercoaster. But a good one! When I found out it was based on a real story, I felt a way I've never felt before. I got really happy in some parts but then I felt sad at some points to the point where I almost started crying. Most of the characters I liked but some I really didn't like. The setting in this story was changing a lot... but I like that- it brought more emphasis to the story. Overall I really liked this book!! And I would love to read it again! 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Juliana)
I enjoyed the book because it was interesting how it came down to being greaser vs. Soc. Like in today's standards, the gap between rich and poor is the biggest it's ever been. (Mark) The book The Outsiders by. S.E. Hinton is an excellent book filled with heroism, drama, fights, and more. Two unfortunate teens get in a predicament forcing them to go into hiding. There are two gangs fighting for territory: the rich and the lower class. 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Nick) I personally think everyone should read this book because it is very intriguing. The reason I think this is because there's many parts of the story where you didn't expect things to happen. S.E.Hinton's book is unique because she wrote this from what happened in her life and that's pretty cool. 5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (AJ) It's a really good book. The intensity is from the beginning to the end. Lots of happy moments, but also lots of sad moments. This book is the best book I've read. It's a real nail biter. 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Aidan)
I hope you enjoyed hearing from some of my students. Leave them some feedback in the comments below!
