One Original Thought is Worth 100 Quotes by Jordan T. Swift (#54in 2020)
Jordan Swift's poetry has a very lyrical quality. His use of double entendre makes the reader think deeply about the content and also allows for various meanings from each piece. Swift's poetry is both approachable and thoughtful, and this collection spans a variety of emotions, leaving a little something for each type of reader. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
I know that some readers find poetry hit or miss. I think a lot of people are intimidated by poetry because of how figurative a lot of the language can be. Readers tend to think they have to be experts to truly form a connection to poems. Little do you all realize, you engage with poetry every single day (even you non-readers).
Music is poetry put to sound, so how's that for being mindblown?
When you pick up this collection of poetry, read it with rhythm in mind. You'll find that the rhyme scheme lends itself to a hip-hop beat, and you'll notice an instinctive emphasis on specific words.
Something a lot of people don't expect from this "basic bee" is that I'm a big fan of rap music; it's actually something my husband and I bond over. One of my favorite lessons to do with my 8th graders is the one where I give them lines spit by famous rappers mixed in with lines written by Shakespeare. I continuously add to my list each year to keep the rap game current but also to trip them up. When my students finally see the actual answers to who wrote what, they actually get excited about moving into a poetry unit that would otherwise seem dull.
