BOOK REVIEW: Kid Quixotes

Kid Quixotes by Stephen Haff (#99 in 2020)

Still Waters in a Storm is an after-school program held in a small room in Bushwick, Brooklyn; it is a place for kids to practice reading and writing in English, Spanish, and Latin. For the students, many living in constant fear of deportation, Still Waters is a refuge.

Teachers: 2020 has been a YEAR, and it's only October. I feel like a lot of us are floundering and feel like nothing can go right. If you're looking for a book of inspiration that demonstrates what an impact we, as educators, can make, this is the one to read. Your heart will feel so full. The problems we deal with on a daily basis-- balancing remote and in-person teaching, managing missing work, grading, devising lesson plans, not being able to cover nearly the amount of material we're accustomed to-- will all seem so inconsequential when you read the real problems the children in Kid Quixotes face.

This is a book that puts life in perspective, but one that also fills you with hope.
